Actress Jenna Ortega was recently unwillingly featured in a false AI-produced video called Wednesday Gone Wild. The clip, made using deepfake technology, purportedly had Ortega breakdancing and reciting Shakespearean dialogue with a British accent — something even Netflix never had the guts to write.
Social media went wild quicker than Thing on a red bull. Supporters were left bewildered, conspiracy theorists proclaimed “Project Ortega” was real, and AI professionals discreetly refreshed their resume options to “not available.”
Ortega’s crew put out a statement indicating, “Jenna didn’t say, do, or dance any of that. She was reading Tolstoy and stroking a black cat.” In the meantime, a competing AI program was cited as having said, “We simply wanted to see what would occur if Wednesday got into Step Up 7.”
The internet, naturally enough, behaved sensibly and made it a TikTok challenge known as #DeepfakeDanceOff.
Netflix, frantic, released a statement: “We do not approve of AI changing our stars… unless it gains us viewers. Then perhaps.”
